FURTHER IKEBANA INFO

Ikebana is creativity with flowers, an inherently minimalist and disciplined art-form. It is steeped in the philosophy of connecting and observing nature. Each arrangement reflects and honours the harmony between nature and humanity.

HISTORY

Ikebana translates as “giving life to flowers”. It is an ancient tradition that dates back to the 7th century when floral offerings were made at altars by Buddhist monks and so there is a spiritual aspect to Ikebana.  It is about the desire to create rather than the final outcome. Ikebana expresses the feelings of the individual at the time they create it and so this is what makes each arrangement so unique and intriguing.

TECHNIQUE

Ikebana always looks to nature for inspiration, every blossom, branch and stem thoughtfully placed that accentuates it’s natural form, creating balance and space - the concept of “Ma”.

The symbolic triad triangle is observed in Ikebana to create a 3 dimensional sculptural design. The three realms are divided to form an asymmetrical triangle that represents the universe, humanity and earth. The result is something of delicate simplicity and beauty.

CREATIVITY & RELAXTION

Ikebana has become an art-form that is associated with a meditative quality helping to clear and calm the mind. Creating Ikebana promotes a sense of connection within the creator’s environment as well as elevating their own intrinsic artistry.
